A new large industrial building for cold storage will be built on a site not far from Jaxport terminals.

Duval County public records show plans for a new 150,000-square-foot building at 11180 Blasius Road. The $19.89 million permit shows the project name as FlexCold.

Arco Design/Build is the contractor for the project.

The building permit follows just a couple of weeks after a group called 11180 Blasius Road LLC purchased the 5.81-acre site for $2.2 million.

FlexCold’s website mentions the building’s location strategically benefits from proximity to Jaxport, as well as railroads and three major interstates.

Cold storage is a sector of industrial real estate that is increasingly growing, according to a recent report. Much of the cold storage growth is driven by e-commerce and even biopharma needs like COVID-19 vaccine storage.

FlexCold Jacksonville will open in the summer of 2022, according to its website. It will offer a blast freezing —reaching 0 degrees Fahrenheit in just 36 hours — as well as USDA and FDA inspection services and more.
